Music
The music playing in the background to the title sequence really describes the mood of the movie. It shows the mood by using music that would be often played in casinos which helps create a feeling like you are in the scene. It is also good because it is reasonably calm music which shows that the character is calm even while killing other people. It shows the character is strong and able to perform under pressure.
Transitions + Length of takes
The transitions of the sequence are very well made as one scene will cleverly link to the next. An example of this is how the main character will kill another person and a series of Cards suits will fly out which progresses into another scene. The lengths of the clips are quite good as well, as one scene progresses into another scene after about 5 seconds. The transitions also include other things such as weapons firing Suits and cards flying around.
Lighting
The lighting in the title is very well made as they have made it mostly Black and Red with some white. This was very smartly created as this is the main colours for Playing cards. This also helps to show the general idea of the movie and how it is so closely related to gambling.
Camera Movement
The camera movement in the title has been created very well by using a mixture of still and moving shots. A lot of the time in this sequence the camera will start by focusing on one object then moving as it moves after a certain time. An example of this is when it shows an animated gun and as it fires the camera moves with the bullets. Also when the main character moves it has a flow camera beside him mainly showing his chest and hands.
Music: can you describe this in more detail? What instruments are playing? Are there words? Does the tempo change or stay the same? How does it link to the images? Then can you explain more: how does it link to the characters? Which characters do you learn about through the use of music? Does it foreshadow anything we see about them later?
ReplyDeleteTransitions and length of takes: Good job describing how animation leads you into different scenes and identifying that they are fast cut. Can you explain more about why these techniques have been used? How does it relate to the film: ideas, characters, setting, content? How does it compare or contrast with other James Bond films?
Lighting: Can you describe more thoroughly by making sure that you have two examples? Then think about explaining-- why are colours repeated? What symbols are referenced and why? What do these colours show about the themes and characters and how?
Camera movement, angles & shot size: Make sure that you name the different movements that you have identified-- look back at your handout for ideas on what different titles there are for these movements. Then think about explaining how the director has used these techniques in this opening: what kind of pace do they set? How do they draw the viewer in? What do they show about the world that Bond lives in, his character and the narrative?
Try to answer these questions to add more depth to your response: also look at my blog and your handouts to get some more ideas on what info to include. Keep going!
