Technology standard.

Operating camera/Composing shots.: Throughout the first scene we used a tripod to keep a still shot whilst recording a time lapse. The scene afterwards, we used a tripod again to show the drinks being poured and the drug (theoxidine) being put in the liquid. We used a shot held by hand to record us going out to the ou8thouse to give the effect of someone watching us walking passed. we also used a zoom feature here.  Once inside the outhouse we used a still shot with the two hands reaching around the sides grabbing the drink. This is followed by a still shot of Tom and I passing out and the camera zooming in on our faces as our eyes close. The next whole scene is held by Sam in First person view. The next part is a montage of scenes mostly recorded using tripod and a couple of held shots including the overhead shot. The final scene skips between a held shot being in the zombies eyes (first person) and a still shot from the perspective of the hanging body. Followed by first person falling to the ground symbolizing the Cannibals death by gunshot.

Recording/using sound effects: We used very little of the original audio from the videos and recorded most of the sounds over top using Logic Pro. For the time lapse we added a song (Damage - Sub vibe) as it is a fast pace song which goes well with the time lapse. we added a "brush" kind of sound to transition to the scene of Myself pouring the liquid into the cups. We used the same song except further along to give the effect of time passing. When walking out of the house, we condensed the song on logic using the condenser plug ins to make it sound as if the song were coming from inside the house. AS we progressed further out of the house, the music drained more and became a lot more quieter. After taking the drug, we changed the song to symbolize a change in time and we also added a high pitched ring to the song to make IT more realistic as the drug began to take effect. The first person shot of Sam walking through the house was COMPLETELY recorded over top. This included both Sam's voice and my voice. It also included the door opening/closing and footsteps. We added re verb to the sounds to make them sound like we were inside a room. The montage scene has Sam narrating over top of the original audio with an effect on his voice to make it sound as if he were disguising it. We used the original audio at the end of this montage as Rhys runs at the camera screaming. In the final scene, we used all the original audio but added the sound of a gun shot when the cannibal is killed.

Editing image: For the time lapse, we cut the original 20 minute video down quite a lot and increased the speed by 2000%. this made it so it was around 20 seconds long which perfectly fitted in. The next scenes were cut down a lot from the original video as there was a lot of unneeded parts. We used a fade transition in between these scenes. When we walking out to the outhouse and take the drug, we use a long fade to black transition to symbolize us passing out. For the first person scene we cut it down so that it ended perfectly when the door slams to shock the audience. Throughout the montage scene we cut all the videos down so they were only a several seconds each. To give short snappy effective images to keep the audience involved in the movie. These had regular transitions in between which were short fades. In the final scene, we cut down the parts of Michael hanging from the tree so the audience knows whats going and yet doesn't get bored. WE cut in between first person and still shot with regular snappy transitions. At the very end, we used a slo9w fade to black to show the cannibals eyes closing and to signify the end.

Editing audio: We used logic pro 9 to edit all of our audio. The first scene with the time lapse. We used just the original song (subvibe - damage). We put it into logic and cut it down for the 20 seconds we needed it for. When walking out of the house we used the "condenser" on logic to condense the sound making it sound like its getting further away. We condensed it more when getting further away. We also edited in the new song and the high pitched sound at the end of it for when we begin to pass out. The next audio is Sam's first person scene. We recorded all of this scene through Logic and added reverb using the "platinum verb" plug in on logic. This added the effect he was standing in that room. The scene afterwards is when Sam is narrating the montage scene. We used a vocal changer plug in to his voice to make it seem disguised. at the end we changed the volume on the original track on Imovie to a higher level to hear Rhys screaming as he runs passed the camera. The last scene the original audio was used and the only audio added was the gun shot at the end as the cannibal dies. We downloaded the gunshot from the Internet and put it straight into imovie.

Storyboard

We hacve changed our storyboard a lot since our fist copy of it. We changed it because we had restricions on where we could film and had some friends bail out on us in the last minute. We also changed it as some of the shots werent achievable with our camera and equipment. We also decided to change the general story line as we thought of better ideas along the way made it all able to flow together.

Crew

We used only a few actors in this but we did film a lot more than we had and without the help of many friends we couldnt have finished this project. These friends include: Nick Bromhead, Harry o'Brian, Taylor Caveney, Rhys Bell, Thomas Judge, Jayden Currie, Michael Read, Michael Nguyen, Samual Voisen, Sam Clemence and myself. These people not only helped with acting, make up and filming but also with giving us ideas along the way, sparking ideas in our heads.

Art Department

We didnt use many props for this project but they were quite effective. The main visual item we used was fake blood. After making a mixure using syrup, food colouring and a few other items we used this to splatter on the "cannibals" to make it look like they had been eating other humans or another animal. Some other props we used were things like ripped shirts, cups holding the liquid drug "Theoxidine" and items such as lighters.

Locations

We used a few locations in our project. These places included the forest area by the Burnside football club grounds. We did not need permission to film in this area as it is not private property. Another place we filmed was at a good friends house (Nick Bromhead). We got permission from his parents to shoot here. This was a good location as it had a good outhouse that we used and its quite a large property which is good to work with. The other place we filmed was in a large forest in New Brighton. This was quite a hassle to get out to but with the help of a few friends we got quite a lot of filming there. We did not need permission to shoot here as it was not private property.

Evaluation

1. We began by thinking of what genre to do our movie, we both agreed on doing a horror which proceeded to move into the zombie theme. We decided on the movie genre very quickly as we both shared the same love for the genre and we were both able to adapt to the others opinion towards the project. We started working on our script and our shots we were to use later on. Although some were outragious, we worked around them and found more realistic shots that we were able to use with simple camera controls. We used simple shots such as pan and zooming. We agreed that we would leave it simple but effective. We both decided on places to film both agreeing on a forest and and garage as the two main locations to use.
Sam was a very good partner to have for the project as he contributed to every aspect we did and even after a little procrastinating from the both of us, he was still able to convince me to keep going and stay on track. We also made a good production process by organizing a get-together every second sunday. This helped us out a lot and kept us on track.

2. I think i contributed to the poject very well by filming a lot of shots by hand and organizing scenes. I helped out to think of all our main shots in the production of our film. i could had improved by committing myself more to the project and putting more organizations towards getting other actors.  I also helped out by  creating some realistic camera shots that we could use and communicated to Sam about good settings to use and actors. Sam helped out a  lot in this process by communicating with me about he wanted from this and realistic camera shots. He worked well with getting other people involved and using locations. He organized some make up design aswell with fake blood and got it on location.

3. We both worked well together with post production. We used my computer for the process as it had the necessary programs. We both decided on the title to use and we communicated well with the narrating and transitions between scenes. As i take music technology, i was able to record some sounds over top and narration quite well with vocal effects. One of the most important audio parts we did was when we had to re record a whole scene over top of the original. In the original clip, there are bad background noises so we recorded the whole audio from scratch including doors opening and closing and voices. I could of improved my contribution to the team by studying the movie program a lot more and figuring out everything earlier. Sam worked very well in this part as he recorded his vocls over top of the original perfectly and also chose a lot of the titles and transitions to use.

Reflection

i think i did reasonably well for my exam. Although i do not really remember how much i wrote, i assume i completed atleast one task reasonably ok. i feel that i could have studied more as i seemed to procrastinate more than i should have.

Concept

Horror/action/comedy. Zombie.

Sam and I have grouped together and have decided to do a zombie movie. We're basing it in the near future (2025 or somewhere around there) in New Zealand as it is the last country that hasn't been completely overrun by zombies. We want this film to scare the audience to a point where it gives the audience chills but not completely petryfied. In our opening, we want to start off with a bang and have a very intense scene followed by darkness or a quick change to our title.

Horror

Psycho & Scream.

!. Insanity: Insanity is used in both Psycho and Scream with some of the main characters in both the movies go insane with killing such as in Psycho when Norman Bates thinks hes his own mother and goes on a mass killing spree. Norman is also very crazy because he keeps his mother preserved in his room even though she has been dead for many years. He has gotten into such a terrible mental state that he has conversations with himself thinking that he is his own mother..In Scream, the two killers Billy and Stu claim to have no motive and just kill for the fun of it. They kill many people just to act like life is a big movie.Stu also kills his own girlfriend for no reason and they both try to kill Sidney who is Billy girlfriend for no reason.

2.  I think they used insanity in the films to get the viewers to think that this is a very un-natural thing to scare the audience more. It stopped all the cliche horror films and just made so that the person didn't really have a motive for killing people which scared the viewers at the time the movie came out. Both the movies were turning points in the Horror industry because it showed that you don't need to have a grudge to kill people.
The directors of the filmswere trying to scare the audience as much as possible so by using very Gorey  scenes with stabbing and main characters getting killed off. they were also trying to get across that if you do bad things then karma will come. In Psycho the female at the start had stolen a lot of money and ran away from town. She ended up getting murdered by Norman on a crazy rage. Also in scream some of the main characters get killed because they have sex and they all drink alcohol.

3. The movies differed from each other the way they came across the audience quite a lot and they both changed the modern way of doing movies. They both mirrored the normal society at that time period in which it was created. For example, in scream it was set in a modern college/high school with the classic "Beta houses" when the football players are separated from the nerds and the school is categorized. this reflects the tim as it was made in 1996 which is when college was like that quite a lot. Also in Psycho, it reflected the society at that time as the cars are quite old fashioned and $40,000 is a lot of money as it is 1960. The insanity part of it reflects that time as not many people were known to be this insane at the time therefore it scared the audience more. It showed that strange things can happen even in "normal towns". This added quite a good profit to the movie as more people wanted to see it. Before both of the movies, the older movies never really had people this insane and mainly just had someone with a grudge or science fiction horrors with large beasts and monsters. The insanity in Psycho differs a lot from Scream by having the main characters have different forms of insanity. Norman Bates is just crazy within himself  and is schizophrenic so he talks to himself thinking that he is his own mother after not getting over her death. Billy and Stu from Scream have a different form of insanity then Norman because they are just blood thirsty and kill for the fun of it which i think is more scarier as it shows that practically anyone could be a killer. Top movie reviewers say that the movies insanity part played a large role on the movies success and they both played a large part in creating todays horrors.

C.)

Music
The music playing in the background to the title sequence really describes the mood of the movie. It shows the mood by using music that would be often played in casinos which helps create a feeling like you are in the scene. It is also good because it is reasonably calm music which shows that the character is calm even while killing other people. It shows the character is strong and able to perform under pressure.
Transitions + Length of takes
The transitions of the sequence are very well made as one scene will cleverly link to the next. An example of this is how the main character will kill another person and a series of Cards suits will fly out which progresses into another scene. The lengths of the clips are quite good as well, as one scene progresses into another scene after about 5 seconds. The transitions also include other things such as weapons firing Suits and cards flying around.
Lighting
The lighting in the title is very well made as they have made it mostly Black and Red with some white. This was very smartly created as this is the main colours for Playing cards. This also helps to show the general idea of the movie and how it is so closely related to gambling.
Camera Movement
The camera movement in the title has been created very well by using a mixture of still and moving shots. A lot of the time in this sequence the camera will start by focusing on one object then moving as it moves after a certain time. An example of this is when it shows an animated gun and as it fires the camera moves with the bullets. Also when the main character moves it has a flow camera beside him mainly showing his chest and hands.

1. Casino Royale

A.)
I chose Casino Royale because i feel that it is a very clear, easy to understand title sequence that plays a strong part in the movie. It has features which tell the story in its own way, and is very creative. It starts as a small scene of James Bond having a fight with a man in the bathroom of a restaurant. It ends with Bond Shooting the man and it turns into a long cartoon animation. The cartoon shows some scenes of the figure representing Bond running around, shooting other figures which then turn into Hearts/Diamond/Clubs/Spades (Card Suits). This represents the fact that the movie is strongly related with gambling. It appealed to me because it is a good way of showing the good/bad side of the main character and it explains the general idea of the movie well.

B.) The tone of this title is very intense and violent. It is filled with action and really grabs your attention. The mood of the title is filled with anger and shows how the main characters general characteristics are. It shows that he really means business and doesn’t mess around. The cartoon shows that he isn’t afraid to kill and will if needed to. It created a angry/suspenseful situation by having the man being killed at the very start which really stuns you in your seat.
